Tether Enters Brazil’s Bitcoin Mining Sector With Adecoagro Deal -…

Tether has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Adecoagro, a renewable energy company in Brazil. The agreement was announced on July 3, 2025, and outlines a plan to explore Bitcoin mining operations using Adecoagro’s 230 megawatts (MW) of existing power generation infrastructure.

The Tether Brazil partnership involves no confirmed financial investment from either side. Tether will supply software and technical expertise, including its proprietary Tether Mining OS. The goal is to test the conversion of surplus power into Bitcoin through controlled, real-time operations.

Tether and Adecoagro will assess the feasibility of using Brazil’s renewable energy for crypto mining. The project remains in a test phase, with no revenue or infrastructure commitments disclosed so far.

Tether Bitcoin Mining Project Extends to South America

Tether Bitcoin Mining activity has grown over the past year. The company, mainly known for its USDT stablecoin, has entered several partnerships globally. The Tether Adecoagro MOU marks the firm’s first formal initiative in Brazil, a country with high energy output and active crypto use.

According to the press release, Tether Mining OS will manage power balance, mining functions, and data output at various Adecoagro facilities. These operations are expected to help Tether study real-world mining performance in regulated energy markets.

This initiative is part of a broader move by Tether into infrastructure testing. The Tether Bitcoin Mining program has already seen expansions in other countries, focusing on renewable energy and regulatory alignment.

The agreement provides Tether with practical insight into how Bitcoin mining in Brazil interacts with an energy provider operating within national regulations.

Adecoagro Bitcoin Initiative Targets Surplus Power

Adecoagro runs a large-scale renewable energy network with over 230 MW in capacity. Under the agreement, it will evaluate how unsold electricity—currently offered on the spot market—can be directed into Bitcoin mining through Tether Mining OS.

    Adecoagro CEO Mariano Bosch said:

“We’re excited to explore innovative ways to maximize the value of our renewable energy assets. This project opens the door to stabilizing a portion of the energy we currently sell on the spot market, locking in pricing, while also gaining exposure to the upside potential of Bitcoin.”

This quote confirms Adecoagro’s interest in integrating crypto mining as a potential energy strategy. However, the company has not committed to exact usage figures, site locations, or future expansion plans. The current effort is only structured around the signed MOU.

The Tether Adecoagro collaboration allows Adecoagro to test whether blockchain-based mining operations can offer a more predictable use of power than short-term energy sales.

Bitcoin Mining in Brazil Faces Regulatory Challenges

Although Brazil is one of Latin America’s largest crypto markets, it recently raised taxes on digital assets and signaled possible new restrictions. These include potential fees for mining companies and further rules around energy consumption.

The current Bitcoin mining Brazil effort led by Tether and Adecoagro operates under these conditions. No information was given about how the partnership will adapt to future changes in regulation or taxation.

Tether’s entry into Brazil’s mining market comes as other countries review the environmental and regulatory impact of large-scale crypto operations. This move provides Tether with access to a major power market while testing compliance with Brazil’s energy laws.

For now, the Tether Brazil mining trial remains limited in scope. It offers a structured environment to monitor Tether Mining OS performance under real-world loads. Future decisions, if any, will likely depend on the outcomes of this testing phase.
